Al-Abbas ibn Mirdas al-Sulami

Al-Abbas ibn Mirdas al-Sulami was a distinguished Arab poet, knight, and companion of the Prophet Muhammad. A leader of the Banu Sulaym tribe, he is renowned as a "Mukhadram" poet who lived through both the Pre-Islamic (Jahiliyya) and Early Islamic periods. He was celebrated for his chivalry and wisdom, famously abstaining from alcohol even before Islam to maintain his dignity. Al-Abbas converted to Islam shortly before the Conquest of Mecca and fought alongside the Prophet in major battles, including Hunayn and the Siege of Ta'if. His poetry is noted for its eloquence, pride, and depiction of tribal valor. He later settled in the desert near Basra and passed away during the Caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab, around 18 AH (639 AD). His Diwan remains a significant record of early Islamic literature and Arabian heroic traditions.
