Antarah ibn Shaddad

Antarah ibn Shaddad (c. 525–608 CE) was a legendary pre-Islamic Arab poet and warrior of the Banu Abs tribe. Born to an Arab noble father and an enslaved Ethiopian mother, he was initially denied his lineage and freedom. However, his extraordinary bravery in tribal warfare and his skill as a knight eventually earned him his freedom and recognition by his father. He is most famous for his Mu'allaqa (Hanging Ode), one of the seven masterpieces of ancient Arabic poetry, which blends themes of chivalry, heroism, and his unrequited love for his cousin, Abla. His life and exploits became the basis for the popular medieval romance, Sirat 'Antar.
