Hassan ibn Thabit

Hassan ibn Thabit (c. 563–674 CE) was a celebrated Arabian poet and a prominent companion of the Prophet Muhammad. Born in Medina to the Khazraj tribe, he established his reputation as a skilled poet in the courts of the Ghassanid kings before the advent of Islam. Upon converting, he became the primary poetic defender of the faith, earning the title "Sha'ir al-Rasool" (the Prophet's Poet). His verses were instrumental in countering the propaganda of the Quraish and documenting the early Islamic struggles. As a "Mukhadram" poet, he lived sixty years in the pre-Islamic Jahiliyya and sixty years in the Islamic era. His work is characterized by its religious devotion, panegyrics for the Prophet, and poignant elegies, most notably those written after the Prophet's passing. He died in Medina during the Umayyad period.
